An article from the Tampa Bay Times says "Smoking kills more people than alcohol, AIDS, car accidents, illegal drugs, murders and suicides combined". That is a lot of people annually. At least 250 harmful chemicals have been identified in secondhand smoke. Low levels of exposure to secondhand smoke lead to rapid dysfunction of the lining of blood vessels. People need to stop smoking because it isn't just killing them on the inside, but the people they love the most. There are 50 carcinogens known to cause cancer in cigarettes. In my opinion, I think that people should stop smoking around places where a lot of people are at because it kills the people as well.
Secondhand smoke is classified as a known human carcinogen (cancer causing agent) by the US environmental protection agency. 5 million deaths per year are caused by secondhand smoke just being around people who are smoking increases your chances of get a illness and dying from it. Five minute exposure to secondhand smoke stiffens the aorta as much as the person his/herself smoking the cigarette.
You wouldn't want to be the one that is responsible for your child dying from some sort of illness related to your smoking. We can make a change though. It is up to us to change it. There is a lot of respiratory infections in babies exposed to secondhand smoke.
3,400 lung cancer deaths from non-smoking 42,000 deaths from heart disease in people who are nonsmokers.
In conclusion, second hand smoke is the leading cause of death. People need to think before they smoke with other people around. It doesn't just harm/kill them but other their loved ones as well They need to think before they act. Like the picture says it is two sides to the story. Secondhand smoke should be banned in all places that young people and children go to such as parks, and other outdoor events. This will protect people from it because they won't have to breath in the smoke as much as they would if that wasn't banned.
