Editorial: Secondhand Smoke by Teresa Vang

Just because you don’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not there. There are over hundreds of chemicals in the air causing diseased produced by second hand smoke. For those who don’t know, second hand smoke is a major health problem in the U.S. It has killed over 42, 000 non-smokers a year. People who don’t smoke but constantly surrounded by people who uses tobacco also breathe in the nicotine and ingredients used in tobacco, therefore, risking their lives without even lighting up a cigarette. The best way to prevent second hand smoke is to stop the use of tobacco itself. The government has been trying to save lives by banning smoke in many public areas, but there should be more restrictions. I believe that smoking should be ban in some hotels and casinos because there are kids who sometimes go there. For example, Circus Circus in Reno has a place for children to play but there are smoking too because any of the many of them already have poor health and the use of tobacco could damage the health of workers and visitors there. Hence, we must add more restrictions and educate the citizens in a way that they can “see” the consequences of smoking so in the future, the same problems will not affect this generation and the next. Don’t wait until your life depends on it, stop the use of tobacco and second hand smoke now.
